Sega Corporate director forecasts sales of a massive 4 million units for the soon to be released video game Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
It is reported from the Tokyo Game Show that Sega are predicting sales of 4 million units for the new game Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games that has not yet been issued. This game which is due to be released for Nintendo Wii console and DS Lite player in November, before the Christmas sales, brings together two popular characters from the video game world. High hopes from Sega have been placed in this new venture which produces a game that unites for the very first time two well-liked heroes from Sega and Nintendo: Sonic the blue hedgehog and Mario the plumber.
This bold announcement containing a 4 million unit forecast was made by a corporate director at Sega, Masanao Maeda, at the Tokyo Game Show. However, it should be noted that no time schedule was mentioned for attaining such sales.
If this forecast is realized, it will match sales that were achieved for the original game starring Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991. This is not the only sales history figure worth looking at. The numbers quoted in this current sales prediction for Mario and Sonic would equal the amount of approximately 20% of Sega games that were sold during the last financial year that ended in March 2007.
It is believed that the Beijing Olympics next year will also give a helping hand to the sales figures for this new game. The logo of the Olympics appears on the game title and the two favorite characters can be seen competing in a race. Although it may be difficult to predict who will be winners at the Beijing Olympics, it is expected that Mario and Sonic at the Olympics will make quite a splash.
