EA have reported that the first game released in 2007 to reach the figure of one million sales in the U.K. is FIFA 08.
Firstly, it should be clarified that the details discussed in this article, refer to the U.K. only and not to the U.S. This information appears suitable to the British market due to the fact that as most people are aware, football is a great love and major form of entertainment in the U.K.
FIFA 08 managed to attain this sales achievement after nine weeks of the product being on the market. It is reported that the one million sales figure was reached one week quicker that its predecessor FIFA 07 last year.
EA believe that possible reasons for the fast success of the game FIFA 08 is due to its new games engine and also to the addition of the F.A. Cup to the game. It is believed that the sales figures of FIFA 08 were perhaps given a helping hand by difficulties experienced by competitor Konami in the development of the game Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Apparently Konami would have preferred to delay the release of PES 2008 due to reported rushed development of the game, but this proved to be impossible. In addition, PES 2008, in the PS3 version, has experienced certain port problems.
It should be noted that in spite of these problems and after being launched onto the market approximately one month after FIFA 08, PES 2008 did make quite an impressive sales entrance. For the first two weeks, PES 2008 topped the U.K. charts. In last week's sales figures, PES 2008 dropped to tenth place in the charts while FIFA 08 was placed fourth. It is interesting to note that the positioning of FIFA 08 in the U.K. charts has not yet dropped below the top ten since its release.
