It appears that Jim Ward has resigned his position as the President of LucasArts. This may be a sad day for Star Wars gamers as Ward reportedly resigns for personal reasons.
Jim Ward began working with Lucas Film in 1997 when he led the organization's marketing division. He was promoted to the position of president of LucasArts in 2004. During his term as head of LucasArts, he directed several Star Wars successes. Generally considered to be the most popular game in the Star Wars franchise is "Star Wars: Battlefront II". Other Star Wars winners during this period under Ward's direction include Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and the Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, especially for the PlayStation Portable. After over ten years with the organization, it appears that Ward will be leaving the organization within the month. Personal reasons are apparently the explanation for this seemingly sudden departure, although no further details are offered.
It is reported that Ward was scheduled to participate as a speaker in the D.I.C.E. conference due to be held next week, but it now appears that he will not be attending the event.
As to a replacement for this top position at LucasArts, it is believed that the search has begun for the right candidate. In the meantime, it appears that the current president of Lucas Licensing, Howard Roffman, will take over the reins of LucasArts on a temporary basis.
It is now left for Star Wars fans to wish Jim Ward all the best – may the force be with you in your future endeavors.
