It appears that the rumours that have been floating around the video gaming circuit for some time may have been true from the beginning. A split between Bungie and Microsoft has been officially announced.
The separation is for sure, but it seems that no ugly divorce proceedings will be necessary as Bungie and Microsoft are expected to remain on good terms. It is believed that the two companies intend to maintain links and where possible to work together towards mutual benefit.
Microsoft is due to retain an equity interest in Bungie and also will continue its publishing agreement, as it relates to 'Halo IP' that is now owned by Microsoft. In addition, it is anticipated that Microsoft will shape and develop a long term relationship with Bungie in the future.
On the Bungie front, it means more independence for the developer. It is reported that Harold Ryan, company Studio Head has stated in a press release that such a progression of the working relationship with Microsoft will allow Bungie to develop and grow both in the area of company organization and creativity, in order to produce games of world class. In addition, Ryan noted that they do greatly appreciate the fruitful relationship with Microsoft which is expected to continue via 'Halo' and in other projects.
This does of course mean that 'Halo' will not reach a different platform other than Xbox 360 or Windows. However, in this new situation, it is a possibility that new Bungie games that are not related to 'Halo' could, at some stage out there in the future, come out on a different platform.
Only time will tell, but one can hope that this will be a productive and constructive move for both companies, which will enable the customer to look forward to new and appealing attractions in the future.
