Microsoft has announced a new structure of leadership for its Interactive Entertainment Business division. This involves the departure of Jeff Bell and new positions for Shane Kim and Phil Spencer.
In a statement issued on June 12th 2008, Microsoft announced the implementation of new leadership roles for Shane Kim and Phil Spencer, in addition to the departure of Jeff Bell.
Perhaps the biggest news within this statement is the departure of Jeff Bell from his current position of corporate vice president of Global Marketing for Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. After two years at Microsoft, it is reported that Bell is looking for change and has opted to pursue other opportunities. "The time is right for me to pursue my life's passion of consumer brand marketing and the creative services that drive it," Bell said. "Coming from automotive, and now technology and entertainment, I am excited to expand to new industries and categories."
At the same time, it is reported that that Shane Kim will take up a new role within Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business and will enter the position of corporate vice president of Strategy & Business Development. It is stated that "His focus will be on future external relationships and partnerships, as well as developing growth strategies for the entire business."
It is also announced that Phil Spencer will become leader of activities at the Microsoft Game Studios. Both these positions will be reporting to Don Mattrick, the senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business. It is stated that "Spencer will oversee the creation of new, unannounced franchises that aim to attract new audiences. His teams will foster some of today's most beloved entertainment franchises, including "Halo", "gear of War" and "Fable", by continuing to partner with the industry's best developers to deliver the best games for the Windows and Xbox platforms."
